Copper Chef: Is Your Non-Stick Pan Leaving You in a Sticky Situation?

Did you buy a Copper Chef pan? Are you frustrated that the “non-stick coating” wore away extremely quickly or never worked in the first place, making it extremely difficult to cook even the simplest of meals? You’re not alone: hundreds of consumers report that Copper Chef pans are defective do not work as advertised. Food sticks to the pan, the coating wears away, and customers are left with expensive pans for which they paid a premium price.

Copper Chef markets itself as a maker of “revolutionary” non-stick, no cleanup pans that will be used for “everyday cooking”. Their products sound extremely useful to many consumers. However, many consumers were left disappointed when their Copper Chef pans turned useless soon after they bought it. A few of these complaints include:

“Pan was great for first month. A small part of the coating on the edge chipped off within a week, but this did not interfere with cooking. However, the pan lost its stick-free quality within two months of daily use. We very carefully followed cooking and cleaning instructions…”

***

“Worked fine for 2 weeks, then it didn’t. Food can’t be removed, even with plastic scraper.”

***

“Pans are thin, the coating is thinner. The first time I did stir fry the bottom scratched badly. Within a short time, the so-called non-stick is now where everything sticks. Try cooking eggs – good luck with that, and be ready for a long clean up.”

***

“I bought the 11-inch pan from a store, and only after a few times making sunny side up eggs, it started getting stuck to the pan, and very hard to clean it. Actually, the eggs started burning on the bottom.”

The pictures that accompanied  consumers’ negative reviews also demonstrate that Copper Chef pans are anything but resilient. Food sticks to the pans, the surfaces scratch easily and the pans burn:

Even worse, when consumers go to Copper Chef to a refund or replacement per the advertised “Lifetime Warranty”, Copper Chef does everything they can to avoid honoring the warranty. Consumers report being denied the warranty because they did not buy the cookware directly from Copper Chef, being told to send the defective pan to Copper Chef and being charged for a replacement.

“I tried to get a refund from the Copper Chef, however, they said I have to send my pan to them, then pay them $19.99 for a replacement.”

***

“The warranty is a farce. Pay to ship it to the company and send them a check for $15 to send me a new one. That’s almost the equivalent of buying a new one on Amazon!”

***

“I attempted to file a “warranty” claim, but after talking to three people at Copper Chef and in reading their website’s stated warranty policy, I would need to mail back the pan with a check/money order for $14.99 and then I would receive my pan back with a new coating. That is silly, when I could buy another pan for less than my shipping cost and the $14.99. I will be throwing away my Copper Chef pan and ordering a different brand. Don’t buy this pan, the company won’t work with you if their product stops working. It isn’t a “warranty” if you have to spend [money] to replace it.”

The biggest complaint by far is about the defective non-stick coating, but there are many other consumer complaints regarding the material (that it does not seem to be actual copper), uneven heating, and other issues. If you have experienced similar problems with your Copper Chef non-stick cookware not performing as advertised, you should look into hiring an attorney to get your money back, especially in light of how Copper Chef is handling its warranty process. For its part, the national Plaintiffs’ firm Cafferty Clobes Meriwether Sprengel LLP is investigating Copper Chef’s behavior, and would be happy to take your call to discuss any potential claims you may have.
